Individual Tax Return Checklist
Bring these documents to your individual tax preparation appointment. Not everything will apply to every client — bring what’s relevant to your situation, and don’t worry if you’re missing something minor. We can talk it through together in person.
- Valid photo ID (driver's license, state ID, or passport)
- Social Security cards for you, your spouse, and any dependents (please bring in person)
- Prior-year tax return, if available
- W-2 forms from all employers
- 1099 forms (NEC, MISC, INT, DIV, G, or others that apply)
- Mortgage interest statement (Form 1098)
- Property tax records
- Childcare provider name, address, and tax ID number, if claiming childcare expenses
- Health insurance forms (1095-A, 1095-B, or 1095-C)
- Education expense records (Form 1098-T)
- Retirement contribution records
- Any letters or notices received from the IRS or New Jersey Division of Taxation

- What if I don't have all my documents yet?
- That's okay. Bring what you have to your appointment and we'll let you know what's still needed. In many cases we can get started and follow up once you locate the remaining documents.
- Can I bring digital copies instead of paper documents?
- In most cases, yes — clear digital copies or photos of your documents are acceptable. Original identity documents, such as photo ID and Social Security cards, should still be brought with you in person.
- How far in advance should I book my appointment?
- We recommend booking as early as possible, especially during peak tax season, so you can get the appointment time that works best for you.
- Do you offer appointment options other than in-person?
- We offer in-person appointments at our Roselle office along with other available appointment options. Let us know your preference when you book and we'll do our best to accommodate it.
